2023 Eastern Kansas Area Camporee

2023 Eastern Kansas Fall Camporee

"Nearly 30 Pathfinders recently enjoyed the Eastern Kansas Fall Camporee at Perry Lake," says Dawn Burke.

Three clubs participated, including the Shawnee KC Explorers, the West Lenexa Panthers, and the Ottawa Meadowlarks. Among the weekend activities were Nick Snell’s worship talks focusing on camping themes such as tents, ropes, iron and The Race. Teen-Leaders-in-Training (TLTs) and adults taught camping skills on Sabbath afternoon to the younger Pathfinders.

Sunday featured “The Great Race,” where groups competed to be the first team to complete three stations. The stations included a fire-building station (the fire had to be hot enough to boil water), a rope-tying and log-chopping station (Pathfinders lashed a rope around a log, successfully pulled it across a 20-foot divide, then chopped it in half), and a rope-lashing station (Pathfinders built a structure out of large sticks and rope, with a seat that was safe to sit on for a full minute). It was a practical, inspirational and fun weekend," says Dawn.
